Frequently Asked Questions

What are the payment terms? We require a $500.00 retainer due at contract signing. This is NON-REFUNDABLE. The balance may paid by cash, check or credit card and is due 30 days prior to event wedding.

We've booked, now what? Our planner is designed to be incredibly detailed, giving you a clear idea of what to expect at every stage of your wedding while allowing you to share your song choices with us. It’s one of the most comprehensive planners you’ll ever come across! You can let us know which songs you absolutely want—or don’t want—to hear. If that feels a bit overwhelming, no worries! You can simply select 5-10 key songs, and we’ll handle the rest. The notes we include in the planner will give you a glimpse into the natural flow we create for each part of your day, such as the prelude music. You can access and update your planner as often as you’d like, but we kindly ask that it be completed at least two weeks before your wedding.

How far in advance should we book? We recommend booking about 1-2 years in advance. We participate in multiple bridal shows, do a ton of referral work and keep a very small staff of extraordinarily talented DJ's so we fill up quick.

Our wedding is coming up! What happens next? Make sure the planner is complete two weeks prior to the big day! We intend on having about a 30 minute call on the Sunday or Monday evening prior to your wedding. We will go over the important details and answer any questions you may have.

Do I need up-lighting? Up-lighting is a great way to make the room pop. Our lights can be set to one color all night or change to the beat of the music after dinner during dancing. We use premium quality fixtures that are completely free of wires and can be adjusted to achieve any of over a million different colors. Even if you did not reserve up-lighting it may not be too late to add it on! We're just an email or call away.

Can we add a photo booth? If you've been to a wedding in the past ten years you have probably had a random moment long after the day when you came across a picture that you got in the photo booth and suddenly you remembered the magic of the day and how fun it was posing with all your friends or seeing somebody's Grandmother wearing a crazy hat for her shot. Photo booths continue to be one of the most requested additional services for weddings and as we get closer to your big day if you would like to add one contact us and we will let you know what we have available! Check out our photo booth page to see some cool pics from past events.

Will the DJ take requests? Our planner covers requests in depth. We also provide ample space for you to not only tell us what music you love, but also what your family/friends love. We even have a section for you to give us song selections which are significant to any of your particular guests so we've got a great idea of what we will need. On the day of we will take "filtered" requests, but you indicate on the planner if you want us to and we even have a section that covers how you want us to handle the commonly requested line dances.  By filtered request we mean that we will play it if it's not on your do not play list and makes sense. If it is something that is not appropriate we will guide the guest to a different selection so they feel included in the event!

How many songs should I request? Every client wants a different level of control. Some folks want to provide a complete list and have us not deviate, others want to give us a few songs then use our experience to read the room and figure out the rest. We are comfortable with any level of picking the music. Generally we recommend telling us about 10-20 songs that you and your guests absolutely love and let us take it from there.

Should we tip the DJ? We do not include gratuity in the contract price. The norm is to tip the DJ 10-20% if they did a great job. This is entirely up to you and completely between you and the DJ

What if my DJ gets sick? This is very uncommon, but we prepare for this by booking one less event than we have DJ's so their is a back up readily available. If this is needed the way we prep each event and how thorough our planner is means that not only can we get the needed songs and information to the other DJ, but they will have everything needed to rock the party!

Do you have a back-up and what equipment do you use? We have several layers of protection. First we use really high quality equipment so it is less likely to malfunction, but we plan for that by using a system that is basically two in one so we can be up and running again in a very short amount of time. The second line of defense is having some smaller more common failure items on hand so we can instantly swap out a cable. Finally if we're experiencing a catastrophic failure we have additional back up equipment in our vehicle.

Should we feed the DJ? This is not required, but keep in mind we will be on site from about 2-3 hours before your guests arrive until about 1 hour after they leave and we will not have the ability to leave for dinner. Most DJ's keep this in mind and pack some snacks, but a meal is always appreciated and is the norm!

How long have you been DJing? Every DJ is a little different, Tim and Mike have been DJing professionally for more than 20 years. We require that each one of the Event Perfect DJ's completes approximately 80 hours of online training which is taught by some of the best DJ's in the world! Before they even get to that point they must shadow DJ Tim for 1-2 years in the field at weddings. During this time they also complete weekly training with Tim.

Music Ideas? Inside the planner you can click to see our top ten requests for all of the main parts of the wedding such as ceremony music, 1st dance, parent dances and cake cutting. Below we have a link to a music chart which is comprised of songs that were requested at thousands of weddings around the country in the last year. There is no right or wrong way to choose music, but this list will tell you what other couples and guests are responding to.
